Tucked into the historic Church Hill neighborhood, the Elmira Royster Shelton House is closely tied to one of Richmond’s most famous love stories. Elmira was Edgar Allan Poe’s childhood sweetheart, and the two were engaged shortly before Poe’s mysterious death in 1849. The house remains a quiet reminder of that unfinished romance, and some say the past still lingers within its walls.
